This place is great if you love that old diner feel and taste. It is very small so you will have to wait for a table by standing outside in a line. Worth the wait. Cheap prices and a home cooked breakfast feel right on the beach. A favorite for breakfast at VA Beach.

Came here from New York for breakfast before hitting the road to head back home. The staff was a little rude and don't even think about coming here with more than 4 people (the booths are really small). It had a charming 'old fashion country' diner feel. Pancakes were super fluffy and delicious. Perfectly crisp bacon. The sunny side up eggs white were super soggy on top. But other than that it was a decent filling meal.

There isn't much I can say about my experience here, because it was a quick one, but the 15-20 minutes we were here, it was great. Looking at the tips, we found to sit at the back booth and its an amazing view of the beach. I loved being able to do that here. The "eye-opener" we had tasted awesome! Warm and cheesy and crispy. However, there is a huge elephant in the room at this diner. This is not a Coffee Shop. They don't serve multiple types of coffee. Just one. And you can get it iced by pouring it into a cup of ice. It is solely a diner. I think they should change their name to "Belvedere Diner" because that is what it is. We were mislead into thinking we were going to a coffee shop. We got there and got diner food after already being so full, but what we had was awesome and the service here is great too. PS: This place is super small. Only probably 5-6 booths, some seats at the bar, and a couple of high-top chairs.

tiny place but great view and feel. Monte Cristo was delicious!

  • Brittany M.

Not a bad place, but nothing exciting. Decent variety of breakfast and lunch, and very good pricing. I had pancakes that were fine - nothing to write home about though. Nice place if you're looking for the "diner" feel.

This is very small diner attached to the hotel on the right side of the building next to the pool. Everything was made in front of you and you can tell all ingredients were fresh. It was fun and different to visit, reviews were excellent which is why we wanted to visit before we leave Virginia beach. It is tiny and old but heard they are closing down for awhile for renovation which is probably good for them & their business to attract more customers. We wanted to try their famous biscuits and gravy but due to short staff, that was off the menu. Food was good but I would like to come back here after renovation and try the things we wanted to and see how it is.

Second time eating here and we love it! The Belvedere is a tiny hole in the wall diner. You will probably have to wait for a table, but it will be worth it! I recommend the Eye Opener sandwich for breakfast...so yummy!

Small shop that probably dates back to 50 or 60 years ago. It's quick order cooking with eggs and pancakes and omelets - the usual grill type stuff. Which is not to say that it's bad - it's GOOD. Low prices, good quality, great quantity. I had a swiss cheese omelet and asked that they add sausage links. It's hard to screw that up and they certainly did not. It was ready in a jiffy while I drank my coffee and looked out the window at the beach. Yes, the Belvedere overlooks the beach. $12 with tip (always overtip your breakfast waitress!). A good deal.

First off I know I went to a coffee shop for lunch, & at about 1pm. The place was half full and I was alone, so I sat at the bar. I wanted to like this place but was disappointed. The menu was limited, and even further limited as their fryer was broken. I ordered a sandwich w/chips with a side of potato salad, and didn't think anything of it. The sandwich was fine, to describe it, with a mangled soft pickle, and the bottom of a bag of chips. Oh yeah, they were out of potato salad too! I went up and paid and the register receipt broke too! I hope it was just a bad day for this place... Because it was not a good experience or a good meal. If I was to go there again, (which I won't as I am only in town for one day) I'd stick to a simple "greasy spoon" breakfast of eggs and bacon...

This is what I call an old school breakfast diner. Don't expect frills or bells & whistles. It has an amazing ocean view, and is great for people looking for a late breakfast. Coffee was amazing-no exaggeration. Food including eggs, hash browns, pancakes and bacon was fast and good. Prices even better. Expect a wait, but definitely worth it. And enjoy the view.

  • Kate H.

Breakfast at the Belvedere is kind of like stepping back in time. It's a small shop with a row of booths and a dozen or so counter seats for singles. The waitresses are friendly and the cooks are prepping and cooking right there at the counter. I ordered the #3 - two pancakes, two eggs and two pieces of bacon, plus coffee for $7 - with the intention of sharing with my toddler. Our waitress kindly had the cook make a "Mickey Mouse" shaped pancake for my kiddo, which was a big hit! Coffee was good, pancakes were tasty and I love diner bacon. Breakfast for three was $18--great value. Take note: a few specials are written on the board above the counter. When I was paying the check, I noticed a gal sitting at the counter feasting on a big plate of creamed chip beef over toast. I'm already planning on that for my next visit to Belvedere...

  • Kay T.

There was a line out the door but the wait went by pretty quick. No need to put your name down -- just wait in line for your turn. The omelet, sausage, and bacon were pretty standard diner food. But the pancakes! It was the perfect amount of fluffy.

  • Chelsea W.

This is my special spot. I've been going here for years when I want some good diner style breakfast at the beach. I bike here because it's close but even when I didn't live biking distance I drove 30 minutes to get here. The best seat in the house is the 2 person booth over looking the ocean! Beware though, this place is small and a local hotspot so be prepared to wait a really long time during tourist season and even during off season. To me, the wait is worth it to get my comfort food!

    (4)
  • Camille H.

Breakfast really great here. Pleasantly surprised by crabcake considering this was a diner. Service was excellent. Very quick and friendly staff. I would definitely come back here! Can't beat the prices.

    (5)
  • Amanda C.

The food was okay, I had a blt, nothing special. The place is teeny, which adds a little to the charm and has a nice beachfront view. What is not charming is the waitress feeling the need to mention to us as we are finishing up, " anything else I can get you? Oh, and just a reminder we have people waiting at the door to sit down".This gave the impression that we are NOT valued customers,if you are so worried about turning tables, get more space to serve more people, not rush the ones you have out the door. Waitress needs a lesson in manners and customer service.

Cool little place on the Oceanfront! We sat in the "Honeymoon Booth"... It's a two person booth that looks right out the window at the ocean, very nice! Service was excellent and the food was good! We definitely will come back here again!

Decided to try this place out based on all the great reviews on Yelp. Walked in and we were seated right away in great seats with the view of the ocean. Right away I noticed the place was dirty. Then she brought our waters and I had to remove the lids off their cups because they were dirty! I took a sip of my coffee...it was hot, but bland. We looked over the menu and chose pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The pancakes were just O.K., bacon was fatty and not very crisp, scrambled eggs were good. Two of my kids were in the booth with the great view. My oldest and I sat next to their booth at the bar. As we ate our food, someone started washing dirty dishes on the other side of the bar directly in front of us in a large bin. Not very appetizing and the smell of the cleaner was strong. My daughter cringed. Then a few minutes later her eyes got huge! I asked what was wrong and she whispered to me that they just scooped powder out of a large cardboard container on to the grill and it was turning in to hashbrowns. She was shocked. We cook from scratch as much as possible at home so she has never seen anything like that before. To make matters worse, she says "Mom, it's even EXPIRED!". The expiration date on the hashbrown container showed it was expired by 3 days. She did not finish her meal. My little ones finished their pancakes and left satisfied. My eldest daughter and I both left bothered and still hungry. Prices are cheap, location is nice, service was good, and view is nice. But, I can't overlook the other issues and will not be returning.

How I heard of this place: When we checked into our hotel last night, the casual, friendly grandpa assisting us recommended it when I asked for a good breakfast/brunch place in the area. He began to point out the "healthy" restaurant at the Sheraton, then thought to ask, "Do you want healthy food or diner food?" I immediately responded, "Diner food!" and he obliged. The Belvedere Hotel it was. The unobtrusive, rectangular, white sign above the doorway to the diner read, Coffee Shop in black, italicized letters resembling a diner sign out of the 1950s. Inside, it was no different! Type of cuisine: A diner through and through, the menu, offered to patrons at the café as well as via room service to guests at the Belvedere, serves breakfast and lunch. A typical American style - eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast, hash browns - or an omelet, Western style, with ham, cheese, green bell peppers and onion, or breakfast sandwiches with the same ingredients are available, as well as light, fluffy, buttery, pancakes. Sandwiches, burgers and the like are available for lunch. Beverages include sodas, juices, drip coffee (in regular or decaf), tea, hot chocolate, chocolate milk and milk. Ambiance: Walking through the first gate to the pool area, then a second, nearly hidden gate into the Coffee Shop, one almost wonders if he is in the right spot. And sure enough, he is! A sweet, elderly man, probably in his mid- to late-eighties hold the door open for me and my dining companion, both of us in our mid- to late-thirties, but proclaims, "Come on through, Sonny! I always hold the door for an old man." And then turns to me and winks as he walks through. Walking through the blue doorway, we are offered seats at the counter by our robust waitress, probably in her fifties, pen behind the ear and plates of food to be delivered to one of the six bright blue booths. We sat in the middle of the nine or ten blue, plastic, spinning stools at the white, linoleum counter. The booths are set to the right, along the wall as you enter the space, reserved for parties of two or more, and fitting up to four comfortably. The last booth, at the far right corner of the establishment, has only one bench, for two people, looking out the large window over some greenery and the expanse of the Boardwalk and Oceanfront. Absolutely stunning, the sun glistens in the water, the waves crashing against the shore and the tan-colored sand inviting you to rush out immediately after consuming your meal. To the left of the space, directly ahead of you as you enter is the cash-register, promoting California-made chocolates ( komfortechockolates.com ) with pieces of French toast, Tortillas with Lime & Salt or dark chocolate (53%) with Ramen noodles. The kitchen, in plain site is just ahead, lined with the counter for additional seating. A mirror on the wall opposite the window facing the Beach hosts a large mirror, providing a semblance of expansive space, but, in actuality, showing how small the establishment truly is. Two waitresses, one cook, a prep-cook and a bus boy all work the row of space granted to them among the cozy and packed supplies on the counters, shelves, walls and in freezers, refrigerators and cabinets, leaving no space unfilled. The temperament is extremely casual, service friendly when the waitresses feel like it, and the food greasy goodness. What I ordered: I selected the third of the three, preset breakfast specials ($6.75): two eggs (any style, I chose over-medium), two pancakes, bacon (sausuage or ham were also options) and coffee (tea or soda). My dining companion decided on the Western Omelette ($6.50) with green peppers, onions, tomatoes and bacon with a toasted English muffin (for me), a side of three slices of bacon ($2.85), and a cranberry juice. What I loved: The pancakes were light and fluffy, large and soaked up the fresh maple syrup beautifully! The omelet was cooked thin, the vegetables sautéed just enough to get soft but still maintain a level of crispness, with an abundance of cheese. My eggs, cooked over medium, were butter-crisped on the edges and running and smooth in the center, creating the perfect medium for my well-buttered English muffin. Truly, it was a diner, simple, no frills, greasy goodness. Why I loved it: Although we did not have the opportunity to sit there on this visit, I most enjoyed the idea of the two-person booth at the window, whose one bench faces the ocean. The food, the wait-staff, the cook, everything about this place reads diner and a great one, at that! Cost: Low ($6-$8 per breakfast entrée)

Hubby and I went for breakfast Wednesday about 1045. Very minimal wait....less than 10min. Nice old fashioned diner feel with an oceanfront locale. Friendly staff. Locals there too. Menu is a steal for being on the boardwalk. We got full breakfasts, coffee, juice, and a side for $24 total. Everything was yummy! Eggs, bacon, big pancakes, sausage rich gravy....and get the grilled Parmesan tomatoes....delicious!!

I'm a jersey girl, so every now and then I wake up craving a diner-style breakfast. Belvedere did not disappoint. I ordered one egg over medium with cornbeef hash. It was not too bad! Nothing crazy delicious, but not disappointing either. The coffee wasn't too exciting, which is surprising since the place was pretty busy and you would expect the coffee to be cycling through so it would be fresh. Instead the coffee was a little on the weak side. Otherwise not too bad. The staff was friendly and efficient. I wouldn't mind coming back another time.

First place we went to eat, small place but a great ocean view. I had the Belvedere omelet special, my wife had the western omelet and my little girl had the kids French toast. They were absolutely delicious for reasonably price. I can't wait to go back. Great way to welcome us and enjoy the rest of our vacation.

Perfect small Classic diner overlooking the ocean with my favorite omelette in Virginia beach! My husband and I have gone to the Belvedere since we were children and it has always been amazing: friendly quick service, great classic American breakfast, perfect location. Belvedere omelette is the best you'll ever have. The eye opener is also awesome and my husband claims they have the best pancakes. I also love the rueben if I want lunch. We love the belvedere and everyone that works there!

The charm of the Belvedere Coffee shop hasn't faded in over 40 years! The breakfast is delicious, made to order, and hot off the griddle. The staff are the best folks around. Long live this iconic establishment!

A meal here is like a trip back in time. It is a classic (and small) diner located right on the boardwalk with a great view of the water. The food is super simple but yummy. I got eggs, bacon, and hasbrowns for breakfast and it lived up to expectations. The coffee was fine and they refilled it often, though I was annoyed at the size and price of the OJ (especially since it didn't come with free refills). Overall, my meal was about $13 which is steep for a diner breakfast for one (especially since the waitress disappeared during my meal and I had to pay at the counter). But it was filling and good so, for the location, you might want to stop by.

I DO NOT get this place. There is NOTHING special about it, its a SIMPLE diner Its a SMALL diner with 4-5 table so it seems crowded and there is a wait to get in, I BET that how they got famous. The only Plus they have is that they are right on the boardwalk That's All. Believe me it ain't worth the wait at all do yourselves a favor and walk away if you have to wait for more than 15 min

A small coffee shop with a huge following. It only has 5 1/2 tables and a lunch counter, so expect to wait for your table. The food is delicious. I ate there late on a Sunday morning and had the Monte Cristo which was a special that day. I also was able to taste the French Toast which is thick and delicious. My son ate the pancakes which were as large as the plate. He told me afterward that he was full after two, but ate the third because they were so delicious.

Skip all of the other breakfast restaurants in a 5 mile vicinity, because The Belvedere reigns supreme. Simple and streamlined to give you the most thrilling breakfast experience of your entire life. Eggs, coffee, pancakes, a bloody mary made with sake, corned beef hash, french toast... get it all. Come back the next day and do it again. Everyone's nice and smiling and nobody has any worries here.

This place is great!! AwesomE good great service!! We arrived @ 10am, there was a small wait, but only cuz this place is so small. Once seated we were delivered waters & placed or drink orders. Smallest little diner/coffee shop, but boy, do they have it going on!!! Greg had pancakes that were Uh-mAzing! Think IHOP buttermilk pancakes, but bigger and fresher. I had the steak and eggs- seasoned well with a nice breakfast flavor, and the hash was JUST how I like it. The waitresses were so sweet, and you could tell they wanted you to feel at home. They had a lot of regulars and it was like a glimpse back in time. Also, a great view from inside!!

The only reason we went was because of the reviews because from the outside it doesn't look like much. I wasn't expecting it to be great, but goodness there is absolutely nothing special about this place. I am by no means a chef but I can cook much better breakfast half asleep. What a waste of time and money. The service was questionable too. My wife wanted to get chicken in her omelette but was told they didn't have chicken. Later was saw a small whiteboard with additional menu items specifically calling out a chicken omelette. We asked another server if they had the chicken omelette and the answer was yes.

Nice small diner, clean, with a great view and attentive staff. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre and way too greasy. Couldn't stomach the hash browns. If you want something healthy for breakfast, look elsewhere. Coffee was a bit weak. I hope they will try adding some more variety, fresh vegetables, and ease up on the margarine/ oil/ butter.

Cute little diner-esque breakfast joint within walking distance of the Hilton where the people are friendly and despite the initial line, the actual wait was not too long. The food was good, the grits were a little bland but in all fairness, I had just spent some time eating grits in Charleston.

Heaven....I'm in heaven...So good. I mean, sure it's just a diner, but that is what makes it so good. Just a few bar stools and a few booths make it that much better. It's tiny/quaint and makes you feel like you are back in the 50's. The view is awesome, the servers are friendly. I got 2 eggs (cooked medium) 2 pieces of bacon, sourdough toast, and hash browns with coffee all for $7.50. I wished I lived nearby because I would go here all the time. My one and only complaint....the coffee :-( It was soooo watered down. This place would have gotten 5 stars in a heartbeat but the coffee needs some attention.

Great breakfast spot on the beach. Very small diner with very little seating but excellent food. I ordered your traditional 2 egg breakfast and I was very satisfied. My fiancee ordered the belvedere omelet and it was perfect. Not too heavy or full and just the right amount of ingredients. We sat in a little 2 person Booth that looked out onto the boardwalk and it was a great view to people watch. It was a bit chilly in there even though it was warm outside so I would recommend bringing a little jacket. It gets very cold.

Great food, unbelievable views. Took my daughter and we sat looking out over the ocean as the porpoise and seagulls were diving around. Classic diner with friendly staff.

Yum! Perfect diner breakfast. This is a tiny old-school diner with a great ocean view. Nothing fancy here. Just a delicious traditional breakfast. We had the sausage gravy and biscuit daily special, wonderfully crispy hash browns, crispy canned corned beef hash, egg sandwiches, eggs on English muffin, and traditional eggs and toast. All were delicious! We had to wait in line for a table to open up but the service is so efficient that they get you in and out pretty fast so no one had to wait too long. I will definitely be coming back.

Okay. Nothing too impressing. Food could have been better with the choices. Although view was great.

This is a hole in the wall type establishment that is perfect for a quick traditional breakfast made of quality ingredients and served with a smile. We came on a holiday weekend and it was packed-- but they got us in and out within an hour and even entertained our baby with a special chair that attached to the edge of the table. Definitely worth the wait!

Perfect brunch spot. Exactly what we expected from a small breakfast diner. Good french toast, bacon, eggs, crab cakes, hash browns, mimosas, and bloody mary. Food won't blow you away but its solid. Service was fast. Awesome views of the water

They can seat only 20 people in the whole place and if you are looking bacon eggs and hash browns this is the perfect place for breakfast for you also if you like coconut cake you have to get theirs 4 stars

Local VA Beach lifeguard recommended this to our family! It's definitely popular among the locals, and the prices are extremely affordable. Simple breakfast food, including omelettes, oatmeal, cereal, great coffee, and great French toast. Hard to get seats, though, because it is rather small and is always busy in the morning.

I have visited Belvedere Coffee Shop & Diner twice now and love it. The first time was a visit for lunch several years back and on my second trip to VA Beach I couldn't remember what the dine was called. After figuring it out through a yelp search I made a trip back, but for breakfast this time. There was a wait, but I remembered that this is the norm because the diner is tiny so wasn't bothered. It was only 30 min or so and all of the breakfast places are crowded in VA beach so it wasn't a big deal. After I checked in I saw a yelp deal and that made it even more worth it to eat here. Once we were seated I noted two magical words that are more wonderful than any other words that have been said: CRABCAKE OMELET. Of course I had to try this magical dish and it was amazing, everything that I had hoped and more. I am only disappointed that now I will expect all of my omelets to have crabcakes in them. I am about to go VA beach from Sandbridge for round 3, hopefully they have those omelets again.

The best thing about this place is the view of the beach and the ocean. I was surprised to learn this was the only place serving breakfast with a view of the beach. The menu was very basic but the food was pretty good. There was nothing really creative or that I couldnt make in my own kitchen. I was particularly fond of the hashbrowns. The crab omelet was so-so, but I don't think it was worth the $10 price tag. I guess that I am spoiled because I live in a city that LOVES brunch and breakfast. The server was nice. Be warned that this place is extremely small and was really busy, even during a weekday morning. I had my daughter, which means a (small) stroller which seemed to cause issues. Oh well. Over all, go for the view and a light bacis breakfast. If you are looking for creative, special food this is not the place to go. It is also a bit expensive for what you get.

We have found this to be the best value on the boardwalk for breakfast. Other places may have a larger menu, but the food here tastes great and it's inexpensive. We love this diner! If you want a normal IHOP/Bob Evans/Cracker Barrel breakfast this is the place to go at the beach. The pancakes are excellent, too.

Don't go anywhere else! This place has the best home cooked food and the friendliest staff. I will be back tomorrow for sure. I would eat every meal here if I could!!!!

Belvedere Coffee Shop was a great diner. Stayed for a long weekend at the Belvedere Beach Resort (which, btw, was pretty reasonable for an oceanfront room), and ate at the Coffee Shop a couple of times. Friendly service, easy location right on the boardwalk, reasonable prices - can't complain. We were lucky enough to get the booth facing the ocean one day, and seats by the counter to watch them make our pancakes/eggs/bacon/sausages on the spot the next. Beware of waiting times - it gets packed pretty quickly for breakfast.

As the kid said while we were enjoying our breakfast, "I like Diner People better than Restaurant People." We were directed here by Yelp this morning while hanging out at the Oceanfront. Great ratings and a heckuva Yelp Deal (pay $10 for $20 worth!) From the moment I saw the sign, I knew this was going to be my kind of place. Small, but not cramped diner with good coffee and friendly people. The kid went for the Sausage Gravy over Biscuits (she let me taste, they were some of the best I've had) The biscuits were soft, easy to cut, and the gravy was delicious. I opted for the Belvedere Omelet. I try to get the namesake item on a menu when there is one. The Belvedere Omelet has all the toppings of their standard omelet offerings (Ham, cheese, onion, bacon, yada, plus "Belvedere Sauce", a cucumber-parmesan sauce that added a really unique (and tasty) twist. The place isn't fancy. It's good food, decent pricing (fantastic pricing with the Yelp Deal!), great view, and even better service. All this plus the fun of watching tourists take pictures of their kids in front of the sandcastle outside (why they took all the pictures with the alley and street in the background, as opposed to moving to the other side and having - I don't know - the BEACH in the background I'll never understand)

Everything that I wanted in a real American coffee shop that isn't a chain. Tiny to the point of being claustrophobic, but very clean and staffed by friendly people that provide quick service. The turnaround time in here can be pretty quick if you are in a hurry. The view of the beach is great, especially in the morning with the sun just having come up. There might be a line to get in, so plan accordingly. Parking is almost non-existent in front of the cafe, but on-street parking might be available nearby. Thumbs up for: friendly service, cleanliness, views, speed, price.

The line was super slow....about an hour with only a few people ahead of us. No formal line. Just hang out until someone comes and gets you. Tiny, tiny, tiny inside. Great view of the beach tough. Food was okay.... But the experience was good.

This may be the last of the old, 12-stool, part-of-a-beachside-motel, diners that's left in Virginia Beach. I first ate breakfast here as a hung-over, bleary-eyed college freshman back in 1964, and I'm absolutely sure it hasn't changed a bit since then. Still always crowded, still with those open grille, diner smells, still with Flo behind the counter, greeting you with "Mornin', hon - coffee?" Still with that greasy diner food that's easy goin' down, and that stays with you for a while afterwards. Still just a good little diner - that's just about it. When you're looking to wake up with some breakfast that's hot off the griddle, in close proximity to others and with a great view of the beach, this is the place for you. Don't even think you'll need your shoes.

This is the kind of diner that makes me happy. Small and unpretentious, but big on yummy food. It is no doubt one of the smallest diners I've been to, so chances are that you will have to wait to be seated, unless of course, you are lucky like me. I was able to get a seat at the bar as I arrived. It was only two of us, so I am sure that made it easier. Groups of 4+ people are probably bound to have to wait. If you have the time, give it a try. The place is very clean and the service was very pleasant, despite how hectic the it got at some points. Sitting at the bar gave me a premium view of the kitchen. Yes, the kitchen is out for the clients to see, which adds to the charm of the place. I was very entertained looking at the cooks expertly flip pancakes and preparing omelettes. I ordered the pancakes special and my friend ordered the western omelette. Suffice to say that we were not able to speak to each other until it was time to pay the bill. The food was so good that we couldn't take our focus off our plates. Their pancakes are perfect. They were light and crispy on the edges. The scramble eggs were moist and the sausage patties were very tasty. My friend's omelette looked perfect, without the greasy mess that you often times see on omelettes. Mind you, I can only judge by the looks because my friend did not offer to share any of her omelette..but I guess that's a good sign. She later said the toasts were made to perfection. This is definitely a must for breakfast in VA Beach. You won't be disappointed.

Long time lover of Pocahantas. But, thanks to yelp. I have found a new home. The views are amazing no matter where you sit. The eye opener was my meal of choice, picked by others reviews of this place. A true gem, and the price is perfect. Very friendly staff, who make you feel right at home.

This is a real cute small breakfast place ... I felt like 70's or 80's dining area and there were only one mini booth that would fit 2 people to have a nice Virginia beach view! The food were pretty much the same and tastes like the way we would have make at home

  • Jessica R.

This was a great place to visit. Cozy coffee shop with a few booths and a lunch counter, right on the boardwalk. It has a true diner feel. Food is nothing special-regular diner food, but the view is spectacular, the staff are warm and friendly, and sometimes you just want just want something greasy. Good food and good value too.

  • Eric Z.

We noticed this tiny place from our hotel and looked it up on Yelp. The reviews seemed right on. Food is served promptly and the coffee is good. Not huge portions or especially knock-your-socks-off but it is good. Be patient with the line. It seems long and slow but they're really good at keeping it moving. The view is really nice as it sits right next to the beach. If I'm back in that area I would go back.

  • Nerissa C.

As a tourist I give this diner 5 stars for the fantastic ocean view location, 3 stars for the food. Not gourmet cuisine, I had the breakfast egg and fried tomato sandwich which doesn't come with a side. I'd come again for the view and fried tomato!

  • Daniel N.

This was a great little place, right on the ocean. It was super popular and we waited more than 30 minutes to sit down and eat on a not so busy day. However, the food was good, filling, and cheap! We would definitely visit again.

  • Ashley R.

Great find! It is such a small (literally 6 tables) and quaint little diner. We were there on a Thursday morning and didn't have to wait for a table but I can't imagine what it would be like in there on a Saturday or Sunday morning. The servers and cooks were very friendly.

    (5)
  • Caroline O.

Cute and small, but if you don't like the smell of grease smoke, stay away. The view is great, the menu is simple. I ordered orange juice and perhaps I'm very picky, but I would have liked it to be a little more fresh tasting than the kind of oj that comes from a gallon container.

  • Richard S.

The food was good..but didn't like that on a warm day you pay $2 for a small cup of soda and are only limited to one free refill..the place is VERY small therefor so are the booths..tiny i would even go as far to say. But the view is great while enjoying your breakfast or lunch. The service is good too.

This is my favorite diner for breakfast. I always get the scrambled eggs.I would eat here if the waitstaff weren't friendly but they are.the cooks are really nice too.Even better than the food is the awesome oceanfront view. There's a giant mirror so you see the ocean whichever way you face.Genius.

Swooped into VA Beach for quick two night get-away. What is the most important thing to scope out upon arrival? Breakfast. ...we ate both breakfasts here, and will do so every day we stay along the boardwalk in the future. No doubt about it. Along the boardwalk there are many joints advertising breakfast and from what I can tell they are mostly aimed at the merely hung-over, not the connoisseur. Belvedere needs no such advert, the place gleams with authenticity on its pleather-stainless-formica surface. Others have praised the diner environment, and rightly so. If you, dear reader, are considering breakfast options for a party of two and you both have sunglasses, go here as early as you can and occupy the half-booth closest to the ocean. A filling Breakfast for two with coffee and OJ was $20 with tip. Plus we got to enjoy a lovely morning stroll along the boardwalk before the sun's heat became fierce. And the coffee was delicious.

Smaller than your mommas kitchen but just as good. Biscuit and gravy was excellent, oatmeal very good with raisins and brown sugar, breakfast sandwich Yummy. We stayed at the Sheraton and ordered ahead and ate at the beach some didn't have to wait. Packed every time we went but to be expected

No, I grew up in NJ, where breakfast at small diners is practically a religion. I know diner rules. And the #1 rule in any establishment is that once a guest is seated you do not tell them to get back up and wait while you seat someone else in their place. You especially do not then make the displaced guest go wait in line longer! And seriously, you never force a middle aged woman to sit at a diner counter - which feels vulnerable and uncomfortable in the best of circumstances, but especially so after being admonished in front of the entire place and told I'm "not allowed" to sit at a booth because I'm alone. If I want to sit at a booth, then you should want to accommodate that. And once I am seated at a booth, I should be served graciously. This experience was rude and inexcusable.

  • Megan C.

This place is a local's gem, located on the side of the old Thunderbird hotel on 36th street. It's been there longer than I alive, and still keeps that retro charm. The place is tiny but quant and perfect if you can get in at the right time and enjoy the first booth (half-booth) with the ocean view. The menu is simple, just your average omelet and scramble egg options but cooked the way you like and to perfection. They'll even sub egg whites for you. Prices are cheap and service is fast, recommend for sure!

Food was good traditional American-style breakfast food, on heavier side, but they need to serve better coffee (stronger and with more flavor) to be called coffee shop.

On the boardwalk at 36th St. in Virginia Beach sits a quaint little coffee shop. The Belvedere Coffee Shop is a local landmark looking out over the beach, best known for it's delicious, homemade breakfasts. The Belvie (as my family has come to call it) is a little diner, capable of seating only about 25 customers, who are served by a total of three waitresses. There is always a line out the door with customers drooling for their much anticipated French Toast ( two or four pieces of toast with powdered sugar, butter, and syrup) or for "The Eye Opener" (a fried egg topped with cheese, grilled tomatoes, bacon or sausage, served on a grilled onion roll). The waitresses are sweating from running around taking orders, from the heat rising on the stove and due to the tight space with many (hungry) people. It's not a pretty sight, but well worth it for the homestyle cooking, inexpensive prices, satisfying portions, and a breathtaking ocean view. The menu has a variety of options for everyone including danishes, pancakes, omelets, hash browns and so much more. There are 3 and a half booths, with the half booth located at the end, which is able to seat two lucky customers who can look straight out onto the beach while sipping on their morning coffee. The ambiance is very casual, with tacky, electric blue colored booths and chairs. The diner is simple, with large windows for the purpose of the incredible ocean view. The Belvie Coffee Shop is perfect for families looking for a quick, but tasteful bite to eat as they enjoy their vacation. As well as tourists, some locals love to stop by for breakfast when cruising on the boardwalk or taking a day at the beach. Not many locals really know about The Belvie though, unless you have stayed at the neighboring motel (The Belvedere Beach Resort). This exclusive feeling, as if you and the other twenty something customers are the only ones who know about this delicious dive, is part of what makes eating at the Coffee Shop so great. When vacationing in Virginia Beach, I highly recommend dining at The Belvedere Coffee Shop for a delightful breakfast. It may be a dive, but it is clean, the staff is friendly, the food is homemade and the service is efficient. But most importantly, you can sit, relax, and eat in the morning with an incredible ocean view.

I love this place. The staff is friendly and the service is quick (it is tiny afterall). To call it a standard diner is just to insulting. It doesn't look like much but the food is fantastic. Every time I come to VA Beach I have to stop here for their pancakes. They have the best pancakes I've ever had, light and crispy on the edges. It's almost impossible to find if you're looking for it but it's worth it.

Best place for breakfast on the waterfront! Tiny adjunct to the Belvedere Hotel (former Thunderbird), always a line but worth the wait. Seats maybe 25-30 max. Everything is cooked to perfection. Reasonable prices, great people. It's so good, the locals eat there.

  • Jason J.

Had a great breakfast along with two good and cheap mimosas in the exact diner experience I was hoping to find. Came with a nice ocean view as well. Restaurant is tiny, so is their basic menu. But the food came very quickly, was good, and the service was solid. Also saved some $ with the Yelp deal.

  • Amanda F.

The Belvedere Coffee Shop is a great hidden secret for locals (or the tourists who end up staying at the hotel which isn't too plush). If you are coming on a weekend day, get there at a decent time to avoid a long wait, as there are only 4 1/2 booths, (the 1/2 booth that seats only 2 is the best seat in the house, and directly faces the beach) and has about 8 bar seats. I gave it only 4 stars because sometimes the wait can get crazy and you sometimes have to wait outside. I highly recommend the Eye Opener, which is a fried egg on an onion bagel, and they have delicious pancakes. Food is reasonably priced and the food comes quick!

  • Tara L.

I love to support locally and I've heard about this "gem"/hole in the wall Diner for years, this summer I finally decided to try it out and LOVED it! I went with a girlfriend that has been before and the food was fabulous, I had a tuna melt and my friend and I shared pancakes! We waited, it was a Sunday, but that's okay, I knew it was small and I expected a wait, and it wasn't long, they got the two of us seated at the bar within 20 minutes. very cute, friendly staff and you can see the cooks make your food! Only downfall the mimosas were tiny and expensive for the size! other than that, I'd love to keep at as a locals place! we get too many tourists in there we'll have to wait for such delicious food!

  • Aileen T.

It was a nice little diner, food was ok, although I got a stomach ache after eating their crabcakes :(

  • S S.

Quaint little coffee shop with reasonable prices and friendly staff. The view of the beach is awesome! If u have a large group, the space is rather small and may mean a long wait. Mimosas and Bloody Mary option was the perfect addition to a late breakfast. The pancakes were better at Pocohontas Pancakes but a lot cheaper meal here.

  • FU Y.

I think the location on the map is wrong, but... The Belvedere Coffee Shop is a killer find in Virginia Beach. Right up against the beach at Oceanfront and 36th, I think it only has seats for about 30...5 tables and 10 seats at the counter, something like that. Your view is...the Atlantic Ocean. This is a REAL diner. They write up your selections on order pads, they circle the place with coffee pots, they crack the eggs in front of you, and serve it up the second it comes off the grill. You can practically touch it, if you have a mind to. Most important, The Eye Opener - a fried egg, ham or bacon, a fried tomato, and parmesan cheese on a onion roll. They serve these in Heaven. I would drive there just to get one and I'm not that crazy for the town...

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
